Attending an event for the first time can be daunting for anyone, but Run it Up Reno is a very different atmosphere. The moment you walk in the room, you're sure to be welcomed by smiles, high fives and none other than Chewy, the friendliest of all faces - humans and canines alike!
Hailing from Cupertino, California, 'Team Chewy' is made up of their core team member, Chewy, but is managed by veteran Warriors Melly Wang and Albert Ng. There have been four official RIU Reno series, and Team Chewy has been an integral part of three of them. We caught up with them and put together some tips and advice for all of the RIU newbies out there!
Chewy is getting back to us with his thoughts, but Melly says the best advice she has is to not "be afraid to ask a stupid question." She explained that the atmosphere is friendly, fun and everyone is willing to talk poker no matter how simple a question might be. Her favorite part about being here is interacting with great players and making friends.
Albert recently took down a WSOP circuit ring in Los Angeles for $14,585 and also owns a coveted RIU trophy from October 2016 after taking down the $85 6-Max PLO event for $1,911. Melly has had her own success here in Reno after coming in second place in this same kickoff event back in October. She says she's looking to do one better this time, as this is her favorite event.
Although the main focus of RIU is poker and having fun, everyone has to eat! Melly recommends the Chef Trio at Peppermill's Oceano restaurant, and the Pad Thai at Cafe Milano (open 24 hours!) is another popular dish.
Along with the fun tournaments each day, there is a party every night with a different theme. Team Chewy recommends you attend as many of these as you can to relax, talk poker and make friends. Tonight's event is the Turkey Burger Welcome Party, and other hangouts this week include a Survivor viewing party, karaoke night, UFC night, and a seminar.
If you're around this week, feel free to approach Team Chewy and any of the RIU Warriors with questions or just so say hi!
