Today's Run It Up Reno noon event, Event 4, at the Peppermill Casino is the ever-popular $235 Mix-Max No-Limit Texas Hold'em event!
The mix-max structure has become increasingly more popular over the last couple of years because of the skill and flexibility it requires to master the format. The $25K Mix-Max Championship at the WSOP is quickly becoming one of the most prestigious bracelets that players can win, having been taken down by such poker luminaries as Vanessa Selbst and Alex Torelli in recent editions. This is the second time RIU Reno will feature the event, and we will have a new RIU Mix-Max champion because the defending champion, poker pro Randy "nanonoko" Lew is not in attendance to protect his championship.
The tournament will be run as a traditional-style no-limit Texas hold'em 8-Max tournament until: 1) registration closes, and 2) 48 players remain. Once we are down to 48, players will be shuffled around and play will go from 8- to 6-handed play. Once 24 players remain, players will once more be moved around for 4-handed play. Finally, when 8 players remain the tournament will enter mano-a-mano mode and the final octet will finish with heads-up play. Those eight players will be seeded by chip stack (1-seed versus 8, etc.), then top 4 wil be reseeded, until the championship heads-up match.
