After a grueling two days and nearly 25 Levels of play, our Run it Up Reno Main Event Champion is Loren Klein. The win earns him $33,970!
Klein defeated Jesse Capps in heads-up play thanks to his nearly five-to-one chip lead after bulldozing through the final table, scoring nearly every knockout possible. Jesse took his last stand for his remaining 1,100,000 in a near coin flip situation:
The runout of [8cjc8s9s2d] spelled the end of the tournament and Jesse's run, and that means the Las Vegas pro will take home $22,735 for his second place finish.
Our champion Klein is no stranger to tournament success, as the Colorado-based poker pro has over $1,300,000 in career live earnings. His biggest career cash came this past summer, when he finished runner-up in the WSOP $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed Championship for a cool $552,000 and change. Previous to that half million, he won a bracelet three days earlier in the WSOP's $1,500 Mixed No Limit Hold'em/Pot-Limit Omaha, which earned him $241,247. Just three weeks ago right here at The Peppermill, Klein won the HPT Main Event for $47,099.
Quite the heater indeed!
Had there been a "player of the series," Capps would certainly have been a contender: he won one event, the Black Chip Bounty NLH, and finished with a 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and a min-cash in the other events this week. Notably, this is also Jesse's second Run it Up runner-up finish in the Main Event, having copied his result from last October's event where he fell in the final hand to Nicholas Aguilera on that occasion.
Other final table competitors had career-best showings, headlined by Loma Schulz. Loma's 8th place result in her first ever poker tournament earned her not only $2,465, but she also earned herself dozens of new fans and friends here at Run it Up. The San Francisco cash game player was a true delight, and a joy to have on the felt. Hopefully this event, which she won her entry to thanks to a Peppermill Casino poker room raffle drawing, won't be her last as a member of the Legion.
Congratulations to all of our winners, our final table, and our Run it Up Main Event champion: Loren Klein!
We'll see you at the next Run it Up Reno, April 3-10, 2017!
